The course is designed to give the participants an in-depth understanding of climate related changes in the Arctic and their cascading effects from the physical system to societal consequences. The overarching purpose is to provide the participants with insights, tools, and skills to analyze the Arctic system at an interdisciplinary level. For instance the biological, governmental, safety, political, health, and insurance aspects of an oil spill in the Arctic. The course comprises an introduction to the Arctic Earth system, its biological and geological components, societal, health, and cultural related issues and their role in a globalized world.
