Our goal of this proposed fieldwork is to test the hypothesis that the arctic wolf population has disappeared from northern East Greenland. We seek available payload in and out of Germania Land - one of the 3 historical, distributional core areas of the wolf population during the late 20th Century. If we can co-locate with another expedition, we would like to send one person only who will do day trips out in the terrain from a joint basecamp. Areas where the Danmark Expedition, 1906-08, recorded wolf tracks, such as in the mud along Lakseelven and on Hvalsletten, are of particular interest. Because these wolves travel over vast areas in search of food, absence of tracks where wolves have previously been recorded will be considered absence of wolves for the purpose of this study. We have previously conducted field work in the other two core areas without finding recent signs of wolves.
