The aim of the course is to give the participants

  1. Insight into and understanding of the most important physical, optical and chemical factors relevant for sea ice ecosystems.
  2. An understanding of sea ice as an ecosystem with its own specific matter and energy transport pathways.
  3. An understanding of sea ice as an extreme ecosystem, focusing especially on sea ice algae, being both a critical organism for sea ice ecosystems, and a useful model community.
