Research Associate and Senior Research Manager
Centre for Earth Observation Science, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB
As a research associate my focus is on the Arctic boundary layer and the interactions with the marine cryosphere. As a project manager I manage the fieldwork on board the CCGS Amundsen and the industry research projects. As the Hudson Bay IRIS coordinator for ArcticNet, I liaise with chapter authors, the steering committee, community members and the IRIS co-leads to produce an assessment report written for the local communities and governing bodies.

Recent Projects

Hudson Bay System Study (BaySys) 2017-present
BaySys is a 4-year project aiming to understand the role of freshwater in Hudson Bay marine and coastal systems, and in particular, to create a scientific basis to distinguish climate change effects from those of hydroelectric regulation of freshwater on physical, biological and biogeochemical conditions in Hudson Bay. As the Senior Research Manager I coordinate the annual reports including the financial reports, science summary reports for the BaySys program.

Integrated Regional Impact Studies (IRIS) – Hudson Bay 2014-present
As the Hudson Bay IRIS coordinator I coordinate the writing and editing of the Impact Assessment for Hudson Bay. This involves the development of the chapter outline, coordination of the steering committee, and writing the introduction, climate change chapter and conclusions as well as the final publication and press of the document. I regularly liaise with community members to help guide the document. In this role I also organize an annual meeting and Hudson Bay session at the ArcticNet ASM.

Statoil Ocean-Sea Ice-Atmosphere Interactions 2015
Helped write and edit the successful proposal for an industry partnership with Statoil.
Managed the project Ocean-Sea Ice-Atmosphere for a total budget of over $1 million.
Purchased the equipment and managed the team of 6 personnel who assisted on the project.
Helped write and edit the final report for Statoil, as well as provided daily reports from the field.
Wrote the technical procedures document, the job safety analysis and field safety guide.

ExxonMobil/Imperial Oil Ice Motion and Surface Winds 2014-2015
Wrote the successful proposal for an industry partnership with ExxonMobil and Imperial Oil.
Managed the projects for 2014 and subsequently 2015 for a total budget of over $800,000.
Managed the team of 6 employees for 2014 and a team of 3 for 2015.
Wrote the job safety analysis, field safety guides and final reports for ExxonMobil/Imperial Oil.
Participated in the field seasons as well as the shipping and purchasing of the equipment.

Ocean Buoy and Atmospheric Monitoring 2013-2015
Liaised with Environment Canada to negotiate the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which resulted with in-kind and cash contributions from Environment Canada of over $500,000 to the University. Coordinated with the lawyers, government officials and university executives to include the University requirements and needs in the MOU. Managed the project for each of the three years. Participated in the majority of the field campaigns.

ArcticNet Sea Ice 2011-2015
Assisted with the writing of the successful proposal for the 3-year recurring project from 2015-2018.
Wrote the yearly financial report and annual project report for 2013-2015.
Managed the University of Manitoba’s involvement in the yearly CCGS Amundsen field campaigns associated with the project.
